Alkaline Foods - A Sure Way to Better Health

Learning about alkaline foods and their benefits is becoming more important every day. What’s equally important is learning about the detrimental effects acidic foods can have on your health.

Excess acidity is a condition that weakens all body systems. The kidneys, lungs and skin must work overtime to balance body pH toward the alkaline. They do so by borrowing alkaline minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium) from bone and tissue. Muscle is also broken down to obtain alkalizing amino acids (i.e., glutamine). Over the long haul, bones weaken and muscles waste away to compensate, and aging is accelerated. Osteoporosis, muscle loss, kidney stone formation, joint and back problems are among the conditions associated with even a slightly acidic state. Eating alkaline foods is your first line of defense in keeping your body in tip-top shape.

Acidity affects virtually every person in our society because of the way we live, the way we eat, and the environment we live in. The result is an internal environment where disease can easily manifest, as opposed to a pH balanced environment, which allows normal body function necessary for the body to resist disease.

It is true that if we have a healthy body we will maintain sufficient alkaline reserves to meet emergency demands. However when excess acids must be continually neutralized, our alkaline reserves are depleted, leaving the body in a weakened disease-prone condition.

Your body can function normally and sustain health only in the presence of adequate alkaline reserves and the proper acid-alkaline ratio in all the body tissues and the blood. Follwoing an alkaline diet, or eating alkaline foods, is a great way to keep yourself in good health. An alkaline diet is considered one of the healthy diets because you are not restricted from any one food, you are simply eating a balanced amount of foods. If you are going to try losing weight, you might consider following an alkaline diet. Incorporating alkaline foods into your lifestyle is not as difficult as you might think.

Balanced body chemistry is of utmost importance for the maintenance of health and correction of disease. Acidosis, or over-acidity in the body tissues, is one of the basic causes of many diseases, especially the arthritic and rheumatic diseases. The natural ratio in a normal healthy body is approximately 4 to 1 -- four parts alkaline to one part acid, or 80% to 20%. From that ratio you can see that learning about alkaline foods is very important to your health.

How Is the Acidity Created?

“The countless names of ill-nesses do not really matter. What does matter is that they all come from the same root cause ... too much tissue acid waste in the body!”Dr. Theodore A. Baroody, Alkalize or Die

Acid comes from three sources -- food, pollution, and stress.

Stress - I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how stressful life can be. Working 40 – 50 hour work weeks, trying to run a household and not having enough time to care for yourself like you want to can take it’s toll on you. All this negative stress shows up as acidity in your body.

Food - As foods are digested in the body, it leaves an ash as a result. This food ash can be neutral, acid or alkaline, depending largely on the mineral composition of the foods. Some foods leave an acid residue or ash, some alkaline. The acid ash (acidosis) results when there is a depletion of the alkali reserve or the diminution in the reserve supply of fixed bases in the blood and the tissues of the body.

What Can I Do to Fix It?

1. Eat More Alkaline Foods

Alkaline foods are one of the best gifts we can give our bodies.

It is vitally important that there is a proper ratio between acid and alkaline foods in the diet. The general recommendation is an 80/20 ratio of alkaline/acid. When such an ideal ratio is maintained, the body has a strong resistance against disease. In the healing of disease, when the patient usually has acidosis, the higher the ratio of alkaline elements in the diet, the faster will be the recovery. Alkalis neutralize the acids. Therefore in the treatment of most diseases it is important that the patient's diet includes plenty of alkaline foods to offset the effects of acid-forming foods and leave a safe margin of alkalinity.

You can do this by eating lots of green leafy vegetables, fruits, specific herbs, super foods, sea vegetables and drinking ionized water.

Avoid as much as possible: all animal food and dairy, sugar, coffee, alcohol, smoking, highly processed foods and chemical additives, which create an acid condition in the body.

2. Balance Your Body with Ionized Water

A great way (and the easiest too) to bring balance to your body is to drink ionized water, along with eating alkaline foods.

Alkaline water from a water ionizer, is much easier to adapt to your eating lifestyle. Not only does it help you to achieve that 80/20 alkaline to acidic balance, it also hydrates your body as much as three times more effectively than regular water because the water molecule has been reduced in size. The minerals in the water are negatively charged, making them much easier for your body to absorb. Also, alkaline ionized water is full of bound oxygen plus negative hydrogen ions that are nature’s original antioxidants. Then you also have a state-of-the-art nine-stage water purifier working for you that will remove 99.9% of most organic and inorganic contaminants.

Just carry around a water bottle full of ionized, alkaline water to drink while you are at work or school, and drink a glass in the morning and before bed.

If you can drink alkaline ionized water while also eating a sensible diet and incorporating alkalizing activities into your lifestyle such as meditation and prayer, your body will balance.

Here’s what some of my clients are saying about our recommended water ionizer...

“Shannon – I lost over 10 pounds this month without changing my diet. I’m so glad I purchased my water ionizer. The taste of the water is so much better and I feel great! My family loves the machine and we could never go without it now that we have it.” Barb S.

“I had my pH measured and found out I was acidic. After using my ionizer for 2 months and getting re-tested, my pH is now balanced. I’d recommend this to everyone.” Jenn D.

If you wish to improve your health, gain more energy and stop the signs of aging, eating alkaline foods and drinking ionized water is a huge leap in the right direction. This is also the best way for your body to become disease-resistant. This is not just my opinion. It’s scientific fact.
