Cough Home Remedies – When You Can’t “Hack” It Any More

Cough home remedies can be very useful in many situations. If they are natural cough remedies, they are even better.

Coughing is the body’s natural way of clearing the throat of irritants in the air passages. Usually, there are two kinds of cough, namely the dry cough and the wet cough.

Frequent coughing can irritate the throat and make it sore so cough home remedies can really come in handy.

Of course, it is always important to identify the cause of the cough so that it can be treated accordingly. However, to soothe irritation associated with coughing, here are some cough home remedies that you can easily put together yourself.

FOR A DRY COUGH

ONION

Chop one onion finely and extract the juice. Mix one teaspoon of onion juice with one teaspoon of honey and allow it to sit for about 5 hours. This cough remedy can be taken twice daily to get rid of troublesome that dry cough.

GINGER

Ginger will also help soothe itchy throats and the pesky dry cough. Place ginger in a pot of boiling water and use the water to steep your usual tea. You can also extract ginger juice and mix it with honey.

Take three times a day for instant relief from a dry cough. Another option is to peel fresh ginger, sprinkle some salt on it, and then chew it to get all the juices.

MILK

Drinking hot milk with honey also helps with coughing. It helps soothe the throat and ensures that you get a good night’s sleep when it is taken at bedtime.

FOR A WET COUGH

BLACK PEPPER

Black pepper, when taken with honey, will help alleviate a wet cough. This will help loosen the mucus for easier expectoration.

Add one teaspoon of honey to a pinch of ground pepper and use roughly two or three times a day.

SALT

Gargling with warm salty water will help you clear phlegm in the throat. Gargle as many times as possible in a day for relief from coughing.

GARLIC

Garlic makes a good herbal remedy for a cough. You can make syrup by finely chopping the garlic into a paste, placing this in a jar and filling the jar with honey until the garlic is completely covered.

Place the jar in the refrigerator for two weeks and use a tablespoon in the morning or whenever you feel a cough coming on. The honey will provide lubrication to help soothe the throat. You can also drink garlic tea to help relieve coughs.

Make sure you seek advice from your health practitioner if symptoms get worse. These remedies only offer relief but do not actually treat the main cause of the coughing.
